What is self care?

Updated: Nov 26, 2022

Hello besties. As this being the introductory part of self care diary, I'm going to be introducing myself and explaining in detail what self care is and what it involves.

My name is Margie and I will be taking you through self care diary. The aim of this website is to show you that caring for yourself leads to a healthy body and a healthy mind and you don't need to depend on others to actually love yourself. Everything that deals with you starts with you so if you want to start your journey with me this is the place to be.

Now the question for today is what is self care.

In my opinion, I feel like the definition of self care varies on how one takes care of themselves which means anyone can define self care with their personality and self love language {which we'll discuss later on as we grow the website} and might change overtime. But my definition of self care will be a decision making process or practice that empowers an individual to take care of themselves physically, mentally and emotionally.

Self care is something relaxing, intellectual, spiritual, physical, practical or something you need to get done and this can be determined by checking in with yourself and know or understand what your body wants. You need to understand that when self care is practiced on a regular basis, the benefits bring about positive health outcomes such as reduced stress, a higher self esteem and many more.

Types of self care

Since we've now understood the meaning of self care, there are different activies which leads to various forms of self care.

Here are few different categories for it.

Emotional self care- this includes self-talk, weekly bubble baths or spa dates, giving yourself permission to take a break, coffee dates etc.

Physical self care- this includes priotizing sleep, adopting an exercise routine, eating healthy etc.

Spiritual self care- this includes attending a religious service, spending time in nature, meditation, journaling, therapy etc.

As we progress, we will be learning more about taking care of ourselves and how to endure this journey. There will be a lot of healing so stay tuned for the near future blogs. Let's see each other on the next blog and I wish you all the best as you start this journey with me.

It is not selfish to love yourself, it is necessary.
